The Treatment
Laser Hair Removal involves the application of precisely controlled pulses of energy (electrical and light, with cooling), reaching into the hair follicles that lie beneath the skin. The energy heats the hair, right down to the bottom of the root, destroying it without damaging surrounding tissue or skin. Each pulse, which lasts less than a second, produces a slight tingling feeling. In particularly sensitive areas, such as the upper lip, it may feel like a quick, light pinch. Since hair follicles grow and regrow in a cycle and only growing follicles are affected by treatment, even the most sophisticated laser hair removal treatments require multiple sessions to ensure full effectiveness. A normally recommended six-session course of laser hair removal treatment, with sessions separated by seven to thirteen weeks depending on the area being treated, will ensure complete laser hair removal. Depending on hair and skin color, some persons may require additional sessions. It is impossible to predict the exact result a patient will achieve with laser hair removal, especially with regard to how many sessions a given individual will require.
Laser Hair Removal can be used to treat any area with excess hair, except the area adjacent to the eye. The best results are obtained when the hair to be treated is considerably darker than the surrounding skin. The darker one's skin, the more difficult it is to obtain adequate results from laser hair removal and the more sessions that may be required.

Post-Treatment Advice and Time Back to Work
Most people experience no side effects at all, though few exhibit some short-term local reddening of the surrounding skin. You can return to your regular activities immediately after treatment, although it is advisable to keep the skin protected from exposure to direct sunlight for a short period of time. Because tanned skin responds less effectively to the laser, patients are advised to not to tan prior to the treatment and to let any pre-existing tan disipate prior to starting the treatment.
